What is the difference between glamour portrait and boudoir photography? The simplest explanation is glamour focuses on the subject’s beauty while boudoir features the subject’s sexiness. The two genres sometimes get confused because beauty can be sexy and sexy can be beautiful.
Here are some other differences:
BOUDOIR | GLAMOUR |
Scantily clad, lingerie or implied nudity | Fully clothed |
Physical attractiveness emphasized |
Facial features & styling emphasized |
Sexual or sexy in nature | Non-sexual, but could be flirtatious |
Focus on body, curves, face | Focus on face, settings |
Bedroom / lounge setting | Studio or outdoor setting |
Limited viewership (including none) | Broad display (possibly public) |
Glamour can be flirtatious, but that is not its primary purpose. Wardrobe, makeup, posing, lighting, and post-processing work together to highlight the subject’s beauty. Sometimes glamour photography is confused with fashion photography.
There are at least two key differences – in fashion, a professional model is paid to promote or help sell products. In glamour, the subject pays the photographer to capture beautiful images of herself.
Boudoir photography likewise captures beautiful images that the subject pays for. A difference is boudoir is more overtly and purposefully sexual – but not exhibitionist. There is no nudity or acts – simulated or otherwise – as that would be erotica.
Boudoir also celebrates beauty, but in a more obvious sensual, evocative way.
Great photography is about capturing and recording actual features in the best context. Women (or men, for that matter) should feel confident in their own skin. We will help with makeup, hair, and styling.
If you routinely shave or wax, then that could be part of your preparation. Some clients will choose to tan, but it is not necessary to look your best or to be your authentic self.
Many clients we work with are nervous about photoshoots. They fret over how to pose, how to style, lighting, setting, or even hiding blemishes or tattoos. We will sweat those details for your boudoir photography session or glamour shoot.
Our mission is to be the sherpa directing you through your journey. Having traveled this path with others before you, we know the twists and turns and prepare you. Among our top objectives are to assure that you are comfortable and relaxed. We spend time understanding your objectives so that we can jointly reach your goals.
We will coach and guide you to the posing, lighting, and styling that will make you radiate. We will share images with you throughout to check if we are on track or to course-correct if necessary.
[Avery is] very communicative, so he always shows you what he’s talking about and how to adjust what you’ve done to match the aesthetic. I find that very helpful because I’m not a professional model, so it helps when I have someone who’s very good at directing and guiding.

We do postproduction work to sharpen minor elements, but as much as possible, we want to reflect the real and beautiful you. While we somewhat “make you over,” what we really do is surface and illuminate the most glamorous or sexy version of you.
At the conclusion of your boudoir shoot or glamor session, you will be pleased with the product. Whether it is for your own remembrance or as a gift to your significant other, you should celebrate important milestones or recognize special ceremonies.
The results that I got from the photo shoot came out amazing. The editing came out perfect. He let me pick the ones that I like – so we were able to go through those together and I just enjoyed it. It was a fun experience together.
